First Mgmt Meeting

I sat in for my first mgmt meeting.

Sad to say, my effort over the weekend all gone down the drain. The slides which I have done up was not being flashed due to lack of time (as mine was the last item on the agenda). But it was mentioned briefly. But was happy that at least there was an indication of outcome and it was the one we recommended. (my only consolation)

Boss said to convert the slides into email to get CEO's official approval... *faint* More work... x_x

Trip to Changi Hotel

Straight after going in to office was a 9am meeting to discuss with consultant on some policy framework.

After meeting was back to office to clear outstanding urgent policy slides.

By 12.30pm, took a cab with boss and buddy to Changi Hotel to see big boss to clear the slides. Got abit car sick after reaching there. My whole world was turning... :p Discussion took place for the next few hours. Car sick + hunger. Only get to eat lunch at 3 plus... :(

Discussion finally ended by 4 plus. Took a cab back to office to clean up the slides. World still turning...

Left office at 7 plus. Already half dead. x_x

Aug's Ladies Nite - Pasta De Waraku

We have our monthly ladies' nite today. I was supposed to be the organiser but the place that we went to was strongly recommended by YW - Pasta de Waraku @ The Central. We were supposed to go there last month but cldn't get a place. Just shows how popular the place is. I called to make a reservation early this month. Requested for window seats to see the Boat Quay view. :p

Then as the organiser for this ladies' nite, I was actually late and the latest! Had meeting with boss which dragged and ended late. By the time I arrived (lost my way @ The Central some more), it was already 7.30pm. We were supposed to met at 6.45pm lor... *paisey*

The food there was great! No wonder it's so hard to get a seat. Had the cream soup pasta with mushroom & chicken. Yum! By the time we were done (nearing 9pm), there was still a long queue outside the restaurant lor. It's worth it! Even the salad taste good for someone who dislike veg! :)

Feeling Lost

Have been about 1 month since I joined this company.

What have I done so far?

- Did up a new concept on the promotion norm
- Wrote a few drafts on policy revision
- Prepared some presentation slides on policy recommendation
- Published approved policy
- Worked on promotion nomination listing
- Rolled out the new performance management system and kick started the target setting cycle

As I write, I am suppose to feel a greater sense of achievement... But why do I still feel lost?

Out of all the stuff I have done above, 90% of the time, I was unsure of the direction, unsure of my role, unsure of the requirement etc etc. And I hate this feeling.

Sometimes I wonder if I am on the right track. Being an Account fronting HR, I have been so familiar with the operational HR issues that I felt confident handling them. Being new in this area, I suddenly feel lost - like a fresh graduate starting from scratch.

Am feeling kinda discouraged right now... :(

Workshop

Have been arrowed by bosses to attend a workshop on "enhancing employability and ensure employment of older workers". Quite a last minute notice. Today need to attend workshop, yesterday 5pm then informed me.

Workshop started at 9am. Was on time and saw that everyone was grouped in various groups. I was seated together with my company's union rep and was the only HR rep from the company.

The beginning of the workshop was quite fruitful, with sharings of best practices from various companies.

The killer came when we break out for discussion. We were supposed to evaluate our company's current practices and work on improving the employability and re-employment of older workers. Being just 1-month old to the company, I only know our organisation has a relative young workforce. How do we deal with older workers? What are the policies and procedures in place? Oh-Oh. Look so silly infront of the union reps and they kept complaining HR shld do this, HR shld do that... Grrr...

The best part came... When it was time to present, the whole team of union reps (all guys) looked at me. Expecting me (the only youngest lady) to present to the audiences. "Gentleman act" lor! Took the mike and went out to blah... Dunno if what I said make sense but the point is, I presented.

My greatest weakness: Lack of confidence and I choose to escape if I can.

PS - Thanks kor for your Hot Chocolate Paradise

Division Retreat 2

Woke up at 7.15am this morning to start off the 2nd and last day of the retreat.

Morning was activity time. We were asked to direct a play and song that contain the essence of our work, our motto, our service tagline, core values etc. So we spent the whole morning, planning among teams and acting and laughing at one another. The facilitator helped to video record our play and gave it to us in discs for our viewing pleasure after that... hahaha...

Lunch was at the resort's Japanese restaurant. It was chicken bento set I think. Not sure what I was eating too. Not much appetite due to the coughing and flu.

The remaining pm's activity was quite boring. Maybe coz most of us were all eager to go home. :p The activities ended by 4pm. Happiness!

We left straight for home by 4.45pm after some waiting ard. Managed to reached home by 7plus. :) At least it was leaving straight for home instead of heading further away from home for some stupid seafood dinner which my ex-co had during my previous trip.

I thought the seafood dinner was good even though it was far. Anyway, its on a Friday so no need to rush home mah? Somemore, we also bought tibits back from the shops around the seafood restaurant. However, I missed the barbecue seafood though cos went out for some shopping. And our dear mama Cara got quite a nagging from the managers. Hehe...

Division Retreat Day 1

For the past 2 days, I have been out of town. Went to JB's Sofitel Palm Resort for my division retreat. This is the 2nd time that I went to the same place as my previous round was with my ex-company.

We were suppose to meet at Clementi @ 8.30am to catch the chartered coach to JB but quite a few of us were late. So only get to depart an hour later. *faint* It was raining and so was quite cold. Luckily i went prepared with my sweater. The coach was cosier than my previous trip with ex-co. This was a Merc Benz! Dun play play ah!

Once we arrived, we started the workshop formal. The workshop was held within the resort at their convention hall. Not like my previous experience which needs a short ride from the resort itself. Division even hired a consultant to facilitate the whole workshop lor... Impressed.

Day 1 workshop ended quite late at 7pm. Most of us were already half-dead. But we were "rewarded" by quite a yummilious dinner at the resort sichuan restaurant. It was an 8 course dinner.

After dinner, it was division's bowling competition at the resort's multi-purpose sport hall. Ya Ya! The drain was clearer after my arrival! hahaha....

Ended the day at 11pm coz was having a flu while some of my colleagues continued with karaoke and mahjong session.

Group's Retreat

Went for my group's retreat today at Orchid Country Club.

Din't have to wake up too early as it was only a half hour journey from home. *hee* Met CY at the bus stop to catch the free shuttle bus in to the club.

The whole morning was talks and presentations and it ended off with a mini competition to see which team can build a tallest structure which can hold the most balls. Think our team came in 4th. :p Of coz, there are more than 4 teams la! haha.. Think about 12?

After lunch, it was small boring team building mini games of which 1 of them is to queue according to your join date. And yours truly got the opportunity to go up stage together with those who juz joined the company since the past 3 months - to introduce ourselves.

After teabreak, the group was divided into 2 teams to play either paint balls or bowling. I went for bowling. Swept and clean the glutter. hahaha... No face liao. :p

Got to come home early after the retreat. So Happy!

Then it was movie time with family! Can't remember was when the last time we went for a movie together as a family. And the movie we watched was "Secret", directed and acted by my idol - Jay Chou! His piano skill - superb! I basically pay to watch him play the piano. :p

Godpa's Birthday

..post has been backdated..

Godpa's birthday was celebrated at Pow Sing Restaurant at Serangoon Garden. Near godparent's place so that it's convenient to go back for cake cutting and parents' mahjong session.

Lunch was not bad. Very filling. Think I overate my limit.

Back at godparents' place, the adults played mahjong while we watched Fantastic 4 vcd with godbrothers n godnephew.

Then it was back home to catch the national day parade which was held at Marina Bay for the first time this year. Not too bad.

Terrorist Attack?

This morning, while travelling in the train to work, I was disturbed by this sound. Quite loud that I cldn't almost hear my MP3 songs.

After looking ard, I saw this guy, very "artistically" trying to fold balloon. I wonder what is he up to. Twisting and folding those balloon into small balls of red and white. National day is here and he is so patriotic? But from his look, he doesn't look like he was enjoying the folding. Instead, I thot he looked quite fierce. He has quite a few big bags with him too.

Then after twisting and folding, 1 of the balloons bursted. Think everyone was a fright and looked at his direction.

I was praying very hard that he better not be a terrorist. If he is going to bomb the train and that I am so close to him, I think I wld turn into ash, without any skeleton left behind. Then i started to think, what if I really dies? What are my regrets? At least I get to die with my favorite MP3 music? Dumb.

Finally, this guy decided to align after Somerset. I was worried for the whole of my journey lor. Luckily, nothing happened. Else I wldn't be here to blog abt it... :p

Happy National Day!

Lucky Draw Prize... (",)v

Today, my office had a mini national day celebration in the afternoon. Was supposed to dress in red and white as the theme but I completely forgot about it. Luckily, I have forgotten coz they pull people who dressed in red and white to take part in the best dressed contest. phew!

Then, there were singing session, guess the national songs game, and spot the difference contest.
I managed to be 1 of the 10 lucky winners to be drawn for the spot the difference contest. Hee. Quite paisey coz most of the answers were given by my colleague. I am a cock-eye la! :p The prize was a $20 carrefour voucher. Ho-ho!

Happy Birthday Godma!

Today is Godma's birthday!

Had a lunch celebration with her & family @ Novena Square's Magic Wok. Bought her a black forest cake from Bagawan Solo & a bouquet of flowers. Handmade her a birthday card yesterday too.

Lunch was ala cart buffet of Thai Food. (I have been eating Thai Food since Thursday, Friday then today!) But I finally managed to have Tom Yam soup today. Yum!

After lunch, we took a slow stroll within the mall. Got 2 pink heart-shaped balloons from the O2skin promotion. Very nice. But... mine burst on my way home... :( Why mine! Sad.

After that was gathering with Joshua & family, doh reh mih & cousins Hien & Girl for the neighbourhood national day carnival. Looking after Joshua had become quite handful...hahaha... Doh Reh Mih saw me running after him, trying to coax him. I think I muz have looked very helpless :p

Tiring day and tomolo is Monday... Argh! Blue Blue!

Met ex-lunch kakis

Back from mc today. Quite a few urgent stuff sitting on my desk, waiting for me.

Suppose to meet Pauline for dinner date but thot I wanna go back for home-cook dinner n rest. So ended up meeting my ex-lunch kakis for lunch instead. Have been 3 weeks since I last saw them? Miss them so much! But after seeing them, it feels like dejavu. What I dreamt - there seemed to be an unspoken gap (like I am out of the gang already) :(

Lunch was at SiamKitchen in Suntec. I was adventurous enuff to take pineapple rice despite still recovering from gastric. After lunch, my ex-lunch kakis made their way for the company staff conference, while I make my way back to work.

Worked till quite late today. Luckily didn't meet Pauline for dinner. Else I think she wld have been so bored waiting for me. I only get to leave ofc ard 8pm.

Tired. Looking forward to the weekend... *yawn*

Dear you think too much. Everyone miss you and is glad to see you. You are still considered 'good friend' in my circle of personal friends.Looks forward to meet up with you as didn't talk to you much. There is too many people at the lunch so not too convenient to speak personal things.

Sick x_x

Already wasn't feeling very well yesterday. Thot I wld faint on my way home from work coz of the heartburn which is causing some chest discomfort. Had my dinner (rice) ard 8pm. Then by 9pm, i was feeling hungry again. Something not quite right. I slept quite early last nite by 10pm.

Decided to take mc today to rest. Kept burping the whole day. And felt sleepy too (ok... I am forever sleepy)

Had lunch with Zhen who was down with fever @ home too.

After lunch it was sleeping marathon all the way. Good time for the mossie too who kept feasting on me. Sickening!

Still burping while I m blogging. Hope there's nothing too seriously wrong with this persistent gastric. Doctor recommends a scope if it doesn't recover but I refused. Yikes! If there's anything wrong, I rather not know lor. x_x
