Driving Lesson 8 / Private Lesson 6

Explored some newer roads today. Drove the instructor to AMK Ave 5 ( i think) to buy his lunch. Learnt how to U turn to the opposite lane (stop, turn fully on the steering wheel, then release clutch to U turn).

Then drove back to Lentor to continue practising directional change and vertical parking, while instructor eat his lunch.

While driving back before class end, learnt how to switch to Gear 4.

*Today seemed to be the "red traffic light" day. Whenever I go out on main road, the traffic lights all turned red. Haiz... Then got to stop, change to Gear 1 and move off again... Luckily, no engine stall on main road today. Not that I can recall... Phew!*

How to keep your marriage going?

Attended my ex-colleague wedding ceremony last Saturday and something that the pastor said left a rather deep impression in me.

He asked how to keep a marriage going:
  • Is it the lovey dovey feeling? What if the feeling is gone?
  • What abt people in the oldern days, whom are matchmade and only get to meet each other on the wedding day itself?

The answer he gave is COMMITMENT.

So, marriage is not solely about LOVE but a larger element of COMMITMENT.

And I must say it really takes a lot of COURAGE & DETERMINATION for a couple to walk down the alley as they begin their next phase in life together , with LOVE & COMMITMENT...

My admiration goes to couples who have kept their marriage going for life, staying devoted to each other, giving and forgiving.

My sincere warm wishes to my parents too, on their wedding anniversary today -- To Stay Loving & Committed Always! =)

Driving Lesson 7/ Private Lesson 5

Nothing much today. Drove around Lentor and did directional change. No chance to do vertical parking as there was another car there.

Instructor taught a new method to do directional change on gradual downward slope. Coordination b/w the clutch and brake -
  • When going backwards, release brake for the car to move down on its own and then steer all the way once the papaya tree is aligned with my shoulder. If the car stop, release a bit of clutch to move, then depress brake a little to prevent moving too much.
  • When moving out, depress fully on clutch, and slightly depress brake. Slowly release clutch until a little over the biting point and release brake for the car to move. Clutch cannot release too much... else engine will stall...
Today, engine stalled on main road once coz din't sufficiently depress accelerator . Now I know what they meant by coordination b/w release of clutch and depress of accerelator.

As I am the last student for the day, I get to drive myself home... Hip Hip Hooray! ;p

Driving Lesson 6/ Private Lesson 4

Continued with a few directional change and mostly vertical parking at Lentor. Had a few engine stalls...
[Vertical Parking:Make sure vehicle stop straight.Mine is always slanted.]

After vertical parking at Lentor, I was supposed to continue my usual drive around Lentor. But I got tummyache. >_<
Drove to a nearby petrol station to settle.

After settling, instructor said to drive around the MAIN ROAD instead. I got panicky as I saw the traffic flow. Had 2 engine stalls on the main road and have a tendency to drive very close to the next lane. The instructor commented "Dangerous Driving! Need more practice." =(

As a result, my next driving lesson is scheduled on this coming Friday again.

j-a-s-m-i-n-e (Part I)

& so the story continues...

Time reads 11.45pm on the grandfather clock. The smell lingers...
Timid girl's chaperon argued that it was only her silly imagination running wild.

Timid girl is confused. =S

Of Scent & Incense

[some DW said to blog this]

A little story to tell:

It was a peaceful and quiet Saturday night. Timid girl was hooked on her usual past-time activity in the hall.

Then, for a split second, she thought she smelt a slightest trace of familiar Jasmine scent... The time on the grandfather clock read 11.55pm. Thinking it was an innocent mistake on her part, she ignored and continued with her activity...

As the clock striked 12, the Jasmine scent grew stronger and unmistakenable. She confirmed her suspicion.

Quickly, she sent for her bodyguard. The minute when the bodyguard arrived, the smell dispersed. The bodyguard dismissed the timid girl's suspicion and left.

Alone, the timid girl could smell the return of the Jasmine scent... With fear, the timid girl fled from the hall. As she ran down the corridor, she smelt traces of sandal wood incense...

"Do you believe in the existence of ghost ?" asked DW

Mossies Invasion!

This is so irritating but I can't do anything much...

Recently, the weather has been real hot and the mosquitos have started to come out... They are flying in the day and buzzing at night. They seemed to be following me wherever I go, biting me! My mosquito aiming skill is damn bad and spraying baygon doesn't kill those evil mossies! Omg. I dunno if the spray has become ineffective or the mosquitos are getting more invincible.

There are a lots of advertisements over the media on prevention of aedes mosquito breeding. Yours truly had experienced dengue fever about 5 years ago. Fever and rashes all over. Heard from the doctor that there are 4 treads of dengue viruses. Should a person (who has been infected once) be down with a different tread, his/her life wld be in great danger...

I HATE MOSSIES!!!

Driving Lesson 5/ Private Lesson 3

Woke up with giddiness, vomitting and diahorea this morning. Thought nearly couldn't make it for lesson. But thinking of the 1 hour penalty cost to pay, I've decided to turn up.

Today's lesson is still at Lentor. Did some reverse right and left (directional change) and learnt vertical parking and circled Lentor a few rounds before going back to main road.

1. Directional Change:
- Check blind spot before moving backwards, while making directional change and after directional change
- Timing of steering
- Low speed control (of clutch)

2. Vertical Parking:
- Move backwards until the white pole is out of sight at the back diagonal corner, then full turn (in the direction of turn)
- If white pole appears by the back diagnoal corner again, half turn back until white pole is out of sight then turn back to the direction of turn again
- Until car is almost straight, steer back to neutral position
-When moving out, full turn (in the direction of turn) once the white pole is halfway thru the front door.

[ I mistaken the lamp post for the white pole when performing my first vertical parking. Instructor nearly fainted.]

Driving Lesson 4 / Private Lesson 2

Continued to learn reversing left today. Muz remember to turn at the right timing. Timing very important. Muz check blink spot too (even if it's pretend pretend only also muz wayang. ;p)

Drove a few rounds along Lentor. Then there was a cute little innocent bird hopping infront. As my car approaches, the bird shows no sign of fear. Still merrily hopping infront of me. I asked the instructor "How?". Instructor said "Wldn't knock the bird one. Drive over it." =s The bird survived. haha... =D

Then, instructor said signal left, signal right. I thought we r going to explore new area... Suddenly, I m out on main road! Palms start to turn sweaty as he said accelerate! Learnt how to changed to gear 3 but forget to step on clutch. Kena lectured by instructor "Don't spoil my car ah!" as he standby his cane again...

IMPORTANT - Must step on clutch when changing gear. ^_^

Driving Lesson 3: Converted to Private

I have decided that I can't afford the expensive driving school practical lessons ( 1 lesson = 2x private lessons) and that it's very difficult to book the schedule from the school.

Today, I had my first private practical driving lesson, which is also my 3rd time driving in a car. Went to drive around Lentor Road.

The instructor has a long thick cane which he wld point to the various pedals and also to press on my foot when i release too much of the clutch when doing reversing... ;p

Learnt how to U turn, reverse left and reverse right... (Still not sure when to turn and how much... It's currently all based on "agaration" *hee*)

Mistakes:
- First step only, I got it wrong! Forget to put on seat belt and forget to adjust the rear mirror. ;p
- When steering back after turning, tends to crossed my hands. Instructor tapped my hand lightly n said nxt time if he catches me doing that again, he's going to beat! ;p
- Saying "orh orh orh" to instructor's guidance even when I dun understand what he was saying... (He realised that when I asked him again during my 2nd round. ;p)

Btw, I went to registered for my Practical Driving Test... End Sept. Hope I can pass on first go! Pray Pray Pray...
